Ather Energy is expanding its production by 2.25 lakh units a year—taking total capacity to roughly 11.4 lakh units—by Q2 FY28, with a Rs 122 crore outlay.
In Q2 FY27, pre‑orders doubled to 1.80 lakh units, about 60,000 a month, while the company shipped only 33,000 units, leaving 20,000 units of demand unmet. The gap shows how quickly the brand’s popularity has surged, especially as its market share slipped to 15.1% from 17.2% amid an 82% industry growth to nearly 6 lakh registrations.
The expansion is split between the Hosur plant, which will rise from 4.2 lakh to 4.95 lakh units, and the new AURIC facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which will start with 5 lakh units and add 1.5 lakh by Q2 FY28. The company has been throttling dealer expansion to avoid inventory stalls; fewer than 50 experience centres exist now, but new outlets are slated to open from Q4 FY27 as supply stabilises.
Financially, Ather’s revenue jumped 63% YoY to Rs 1,464 crore, and it turned a profit of Rs 1.26 crore after a loss the previous year. The capacity hike, coupled with phased rollouts of the new Konarc scooter in UP and Rajasthan, signals the brand’s intent to keep pace with rivals like Mahindra’s e‑Viking and Bajaj’s Chetak.
Production at both sites will start in December 2026, with full capacity in place by Q2 FY28. Buyers can expect shorter wait times, a broader dealer reach, and more competitive pricing as supply catches up. Keep an eye on how quickly the new capacity translates into market penetration and whether the brand can reclaim its former 17% share.
